umm no. you can use a hacked/unlocked pre on bell, only if its a bell phone. Bell and Telus have an agreement that they will ONLY accept phones bought FROM THEM.

There is no exception to this rule. Bell phones have their esn numbers logged into bell's system. If the phone's not from bell, the ESN on the phone will be flagged, and they will NOT do it for you under ANY circumstances.

If you do manage to convince a rep to add your phone the rep will be fired for adding your phone, your account will be disconnected and you will be charged all of the cancellation fees that go along with the account.

Only bell phones work with bell, and only TELUS phones work with TELUS. Rogers is the only company that accepts unlocked phones in canada. And its on GSM so, no american PRE's in canada allowed.

Close.. but not quite. I work for Bell, and its not that we'd get fired if we put a phone from another carrier on your line, the application we use automatically checks your esn/meid against our database and if it isn't a bell phone... It throws an error and won't even go through.

Hell, we can't even put a Solo phone on Bell and Bell owns Solo.

Yea, basically when you go to process a serial number change (ESN/MEID HEX), you can enter the serial number from Telus/Koodo/Solo/Virgin or any other CDMA network but when you actually go to process it, an error is thrown back saying something along the lines of the ESN being invalid.

I've tried to put Solo Blackberry Pearls on Bell in the past not knowing that it was a Solo phone and you get a similar message to a phone being on the negative file (stolen, suspended account, etc)

Really.. I can only guess. But I'd imagine they do it in order to control the devices on the network.

One of the major benefits to going with a top tier carrier (Bell/Telus/Rogers) over a discount brand (Fido/Solo/Virgin/Koodo) is that you can get a much nicer handset on the top tier carrier. By limiting who's phones work on who's network they are essentially keeping the competitive edge on phone hardware alone.

I dont understand.... I work at the Source, and we are dealers for rogers. We take fido phones, and unlocked indian phones all the time and sell them sim cards. Rogers doesnt unlock them for you, you have to figure out how to get that done yourself. Ask around, our mall here has a booth called "Fone Eleven" where they charge $40 to unlock your phone for you. Then they come back to me and buy a sim card.
