Default GPS is inaccurate

Just got my pre, activated and started playing with Google Maps and the location was way off.
Then i downloaded accuweather from the app store and its way off (same wrong location as Google Maps)
I tried turning off location services and turning back on and no luck.
Its a clear day, and the GPS on my old HTC works fine.
Anyone else had this issue?

Actually I've noticed it, I was using google maps to find my way to a party last night, and yes, sometimes that thing can be pretty far off. luckily I knew where i was and just needed the directions, cause it was wrong about what street i was on by quite a bit in the beginning of the trip. After about 10 minutes it was pretty accurate though. Dunno if thats a regular thing or not.

The satellites used in gps are owned by the us army. They intentionall put in random errors - In order to have an error free signal one has to use an army gps unit or one that communicates with land based beacons.

Remember during operation dessert storm they turned off the error routines because they did not have enough army gps's and had to use commercial ones - of course the fact was not devulged till well after the fact .lol

Actually it looks like 'selective avaibility was turned off in 2000 :

Global Positioning System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I must be getting old .lol

Still an interesting read - look into 'selective availability'
