iPhone has a head start, Blackberry even more but
It is difficult to compare to the iPhone because of the fact that they are on their 3rd iteration of their device. By the same token, comparing the Pre to the first generation iPhone is equally unfair because Apple kind of paved the way. Granted, Palm has a completely new OS, but then again, so did Apple when it introduced the iPhone.
As much as the Blackberry has made huge inroads to the Smartphone market, my personal opinion is that it is and will remain a corporate device. They made a big splash with the Curve non-corporate use, etc., but my feeling is that the Pre, the several Android devices coming out and other competing smartphones coming, Blackberry just won't be able to continue to attract the younger, hipper audience outside of the corporate world.
So, as Palm releases updates, and the apps start to trickle in, I predict that the Pre will become the number 2 device by mid 2010 - second to the iPhone.
