Oh Em Geeeeeee. I can't believe no one has posted PreWare here yet!!! PreWare is so amazing! I installed it on my pre quite a whiles back. It's pretty simple to do, and I'd be willing to help someone if they need it. Here's a link to the site..

most of the people here have already found preware. There is a better app than preware though, its not able to install the package manager service on its own though, so if you need that, get preware first, but "Installer" has a better organization system for patches apps and themes than preware does, i usually use it instead of preware.
here's the link for Installer, alternative to preware: check it out net.opalcoba.installer_0.0.1_all_0.ipk

http://install.preware.org The "Installer" app is a direct source code copy clone of Preware. It contains no additional functionality, and in fact is cloned from a version of Preware that is now quite old and contains bugs that have been fixed in the latest Preware versions. It simply sets some of the preferences to a different default at installation so that it looks like it's actually a different program. It also does not include the massive speed improvements we have added for Preware in webOS 1.3.1, nor the additions which fix the app install limit. Please take a look at the Preferences menu item in Preware to achieve the same theme and main screen layout that you see by default in the "Installer" application. The author of the "Installer" application has no affiliation with WebOS Internals, or any other development groups, and quite frankly is some guy who is just looking for a bit of attention rather than a serious developer. Since we release Preware as open source, we cannot stop anyone from making an unsupported rip-off in this way and harming the reputation of the real Preware tool (since it doesn't contain the latest speed increases and bug fixes). -- Rod Whitby -- WebOS Internals and Preware founder |
