Hello all,

Android has a Market enabler hack made for those who want to access paid apps but cannot due to the region they reside in. Does anyone know if a similar hack or app has been created for the WebOS devices?

I remember reading a while back that gsm phones in europe were having problems getting the full app catalog, but i dont know about anymore.

One thing to try is installing preware, wich is an homebrew app installer. Im assumeing that because the feeds are coming from the united states, like precentral.com and such, and it does display ALL applications in the catalog as well. That it would show them and allow you to get them. But i could be wrong.

But hey it couldnt hurt to try. Here is the link on how to install preware.

Thanks for the reply, I have been using preware for a while now and I do see all the apps there, however everytime I select an app (no homebrew) it will tell me that I am in the wrong region and I am denied.

Thank you for the great idea, but I think the only way to make this work is to trick the phone in thinking it is on an American provider.

just so i have a little more info, what region/carrier are you and is you palm cdm or gsm?

Well im from the UK, carrier O2 and its a GSM

Since the newest update, whenever you download an app a copy is saved in the downloads folder on the pre (when you plug it into your computer as a USB device)

Can we not find a way to get a copy of a american app downloaded and see if it works on a gsm phone?

Well as for Europe on the O2 Network, your app catalog is coming in march, here is the link.

Althou, if you pm me i would send you one of the (free) programs under the app folder, althou i dont know if it would simply show up that way, you would probably need to use webos installer to install it.

As for canada, there seems to be some posts over at precentral, but be warned alot of them have turned into hot headed people bickering, althou there is some usefull info spattered in their. But the answer seems to be the same, waiting till the catalog is updated. Possibly with webos 1.4

As for getting paid apps on either region, in this post it would seem that you can have someone buy the app (in US) and add it to the palm profile somehow ect ect. all of wich sounds like a bunch of hassle to get an app working. Althou their seems to be a hint of being able to do it illegaly, wich is beyond my moral compass.
