Is it possible to continue service without starting a new 2 yr contract?

I have just ended my 2yr and currently going M2M w/ no contract.
I want to get the Pre but dont like the "stuck" feeling of contracts. I have seen on my reciepts in the past, boxes for M2M, 1yr, 2yr. how do I signup for anything other than 2yr.?
