Ok so I've heard that a few people have found a work around to get the Pre on older plans that aren't the Everything Plan. Is there anyone out there that has actually done this?

In my time with Sprint, there were a few instincts I have seen on an everything messaging plan with a $15 data plan, but nothing with the pre. I don't think this will happen with the current billing system.

I succeeded with Telesales (sounded like it was the call center in the Philippines). I even got them to agree to free PAM (tethering) and so note my files, since I already had free PAM with my Treo 650 (all 650s get this since they only support the slower Vision speed).

That of course was great talk and got me to agree to a 2 year contract vs. going to ATT for an iPhone or Verizon and a Crackberry.

And, as I suspected, when the Pre arrived, it could not be activated on my old Free and Clear plan + upgrade fee, and once I switched to one of the Everything plans, of course, PAM was absolutely 100% not allowed (even if I wanted to pay).

So, NOT.

Only remaining question: do I return the phone within the 30 days and cancel the new 2 year contract or do I keep the Pre or do I switch to an older PalmOS phone that supports tethering? I use tethering so infrequently that Sprint would make a ton of money by selling me PAM.

I read today where there is now someone that successfully hacked the Pre to work on Verizon's network for voice. No data yet, but he/she is working on it. Verizon won't save you money though!!

I'm not on sprint, but simply today my network (bell) went down (voice worked but no data) my pre was useless
I realized how much this phone relys on data
Bell also recommends unlimited data and I see why

Aha, i has the same experiance as robo45h, i had a free data plan given to me for sprint messing up and the phone salesman sold me the phone and stated i did not need to upgrade my plan because i already had internet.

Received the phone, called in to get it activated,
customer support rep, "im sorry sir, but you will have to upgrade your plan to use this phone" my reply "no, i was told i dont have to, please get me a manager.
Manager, "im sorry sir, but you will have to upgrade your plan to use this phone, their is nothing we can do" my reply "no, i was told i dont have to, send me to your customer resolution department."
customer resolution rep, "Sir i understand their was a miscommunication, i will upgrade your plan for 2 years and you will only have the pay what you are currently paying" my reply "thank you"

As for tethering, sprint frowns upon it but if you search on google there is an pay by dontation app that works great.
